Hey Alan - listening now to your conversation with John. Interesting stuff. The whole movement vs. conversation thing has always been a bit of a convoluted thing. Mostly because of the differing definitions of these things. I’ve always been one of the voices who didn’t favor calling the whole emerging thing a “movement” because it’s not homogeneous enough. I think “conversation” just sounds pomo/hippy/silly so I’m not even going there.
Sounds like what I’m hearing here is actually a discussion between the idea of a generic “movement” and what might be called an “organization” - where a movement, as you’re describing it, is more open and an organization, which is more closed and something you “join.”
It’s when we see things trying to be made into an organization that I see problems. Seems like what you guys are talking about. Anyway, just wanted to throw in 2 cents. Peace.
+ Alan
