Zooey Deschanel (Kat – Andy’s crazy ex-girlfriend) returns for at least one episode, Matthew Modine and Mary-Kate Olsen join the cast, and Silas starts out the season on the run from the police.

One of the most buzzed-about series on television, WEEDS follows a suburban mother (Parker in her Golden Globe®-winning portrayal of Nancy Botwin) who deals marijuana in order to make ends meet after her husband dies unexpectedly. The show, which earned a Golden Globe ® nomination for Best Comedy Series, also stars Emmy® nominee Elizabeth Perkins, Tonye Patano, Romany Malco, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould, Andy Milder, Allie Grant, with Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon.
Just finished catching up last night, as it turns out. I’m finding thought–and I wonder if you would agree–that the Nancy Botwin character is becoming a little less sympathetic for me as time goes on. Which is impressive given how I would sympathize with Mary-Louise Parker if she played a destroyer of whole solar systems. That woman is hot.

I do think she is becoming less of a sympathetic character. I think once she crossed the line from trying to support her family to drug producer, Nancy Botwin has become less the struggling individual who tragically lost her husband to someone capitalizing on the addictions of others. Not that all pot-smokers are addicts, and from what I’ve read it’s actually not technically physically addictive like other substances, but she’s definitely getting into the uglier side of drug-trafficking.
I suspect the mega-church story line in the next season is going to provide much food-for-thought in relation to situational ethics.
