Why Al Qaeda Supports the Emergent Church
I really thought this had to be satire. Then I read the article. And started reading the comments.
The dumbest crap I’ve ever read from a conservative
Yes. Those evil people who ask questions about whether followers of the Prince of Peace should be blindly supporting war… those people are liked and appreciated by Al Qaeda.
The worst part of the article, however, is that it’s not even our anti-war (or at least questioning of the war) stance which is the reason Al Qaeda “supports the emergent church.” No, it’s because we threaten the institutional church and the framework it provides the U.S., and thus the entire Western world… nay, the entire world since it’s clear Western ideals should dominate every one!
I’m restraining my comments now, because nothing more than judgment and condemnation can flow from my fingertips… desperately wanting these types of people to reap what they’ve been sowing for decades.
Yep. That is just about the dumbest crap I’ve ever read from a Conservative, too. I only have one word. Wow.
Peace,
Brian

I posted this just now:
A sad Christianist fantasy
Mr. Pastore, my wife and I saw you speak years ago, I believe while you were still studying at Biola. We were both impressed with you then, but this essay just saddens me. I am not part of Emergent or even an evangelical anymore, and I know many fine liberals who simply bear no resemblance to your dismissive characterizations of them. There are people who have bled for this country who don’t fit your absurdly reductionist models, models that do little more than make it easier for you to move and function in the world without being too challenged in your belief systems. And the back-slapping comments in this thread are evidence that your readers weren’t challenged either. More us-vs-them grist for the self-congratulatory, deluded mill.
I used to post on Free Republic and considered myself a card-carrying member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Now, for the sake of my country and my sanity, I’ve taken pause to consider the damage that right-wing loyalty, and the cover it’s given to men like Bush and Cheney, may have done to my beloved country. I’ve also taken pause to consider what damage slavish allegiance to right-wing politics may have done the church, if not to my soul.
