A Different Perspective

Faith, Art, Politics, and the Emerging Church

about the podcast/blog

a different perspective from alan hartung on the emerging church, politics, faith, and life

Any regular reader of this blog knows I harp a lot about church structure and the problems with having our local churches resources wasted on a Sunday show where what we do does not make sense without a large number of people who show up and do virtually nothing, except sing and listen. That’s the more harsh way of saying it, and sometimes I try to be a lot more diplomatic. DashHouse.com has an excellent post, much more kind to the current struggles of the local evangelical church, called Moving Beyond Church Services.

Some question if we really have to choose between being missional and attractional. There’s surely nothing wrong with being attractive to unbelievers. I’ve come to realize, though, that most people are not staying away from church because of the seating, parking, preaching, or music. We’re not even on their radar. Perhaps our efforts will be better spent on equipping ourselves to be salt and light, living the gospel in our schools, homes, and workplaces, rather than hoping people will come to us.

This quick read is worth your time. There’s a lot packed in to a few paragraphs.

One Response to “DashHouse.com: Moving Beyond Church Services”

  1. I feel like the community of emerging churches & the post modernists are throwing themselves off & outside of truth. I feel like the focus is so heavily on NOT being like the church, that we forget what God created church to be… I believe it is a community of belevers devoted to Jesus Christ because of what he did. Everything the Bible says is everything that should be believed… Do you see what I’m saying?

Does anyone else feel as if there are blindfolds on the ones leading the movement?
