1. I add stuff, not give stuff up. For the last couple of years I have prayed a Lutheran rosary daily (basically a rosary without the questionable Mariolotry). There are alot of different forms for that that you can find on the Web. This year I found one where you’re praying through Luther’s Small Catechism. Sometimes its good to go back 500 years and see what people were doing and see how amazing it is that the same grace still applies to our lives.

2. I have a friend of mine speaking this Sunday and will introduce some elements of Lent. Since we meet at the Hilton, we don’t have a place to do a Lenton service so some of us might head to the Episciple church near our place and then afterward come back and have our own little service and through our paper (that we write our ’sins’ on) into our fireplace.

   There’s more, but I’m under weather and can’t think of what it all is just now. Good thing my friend is doing it.

3. Great question, bro! I’ve never “done” Lent before, being a good “grace-believin’” boy, but this year Jasmin and I are gonna take the plunge! Heading down to Emmaus Way for Ash Wednesday, yessir. Gettin’ liturgical with it. A house churcher followin’ the Church calendar! That’s what I’m going to try starting this year. So I’ll fill you in on what we actually end up doing…

4. at risk of being traditional. i’m giving up meat / actaully anything from an animal. i don’t know if i could claim full scale veganism; for my shoes are leather and i can’t just stop wearing my work boots to work. but i’ll do what i can

5. Nate: BTW, I came to this blog to ask if anyone had some ideas for what to do with children during lent. I’d love to hear what your church or family is doing (see new post on children in the church). Anyone else is welcome to chime in too.

   I’ve been thinking of using a pitcher and placing slips of black paper in it when we have to say sorry to each other. My four year old has a hard time imagining that I sin every day so I want to show him. We could let our sins collect for all of Lent and then burn them on Good Friday. I also read today about making the Saturday before Easter a day of “waiting” where things are lower key. And then of course we might make the infamous (and not so tasty?) Resurrection Cookies.

   But I’d like more ideas. I don’t think I’ve found my “go to” idea for this year. Thanks!
