‘Kienan Corbus lives in Chickaloon and drives a big pickup with big tires. But he doesn’t have a big fuel bill.
He recently drove 150 miles round-trip to Anchorage using a mere two gallons of diesel — pretty darn good for a Ford F-250 power stroke with oversized tires.
How is it possible? Corbus is glad to tell you. He might even try to convert you.
He runs his truck on used cooking oil. He calls it ’straight veg.’”

Perhaps the saving grace of skyrocketing oil prices under a President with huge ties to oil barons around the world – come on, you have to at least ask the question, don’t you? – will be the emergence of alternative fuel. From what I’ve seen of the vegetable, organic fuel solutions, they’re better for the environment, less expensive, and frees us from dependence on middle east oil. So why haven’t we pushed further into developing these alternative fuels?

Better for the environment – because they use renewable resources. I’m not sure they burn any cleaner than the new clean desiels coming out.
less expensive – per gallon, yes. But organic fuel is also less efficient, so getting from point A to point B can cost just as much money if you get it from a pump.
Frees us from dependence on middle east oil – only if we can start producing it in serious quantities.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally with you on this, we need to start getting off of petrol. But we also need to realize that it’s going to take time and a significant investment by our government to help car and oil companies get us there. The only way that’s going to happen is if we pressure our elected officials to make it happen, and continue to pressure them after the current gas crisis starts to fizzle.
