New York Daily News – Home – Bush press pal quits over gay prostitute link
WASHINGTON – A conservative ringer who was given a press pass to the White House and lobbed softball questions at President Bush quit yesterday after left-leaning Internet bloggers discovered possible ties to gay prostitution.

Search the internet for this one. There’s plenty as I’m way late on this one. I probably passed by it when it first broke due to its relative obscurity by the mainstream media. It seemed so unbelievable I probably thought it was just some random case of bad luck for the Bush administration. Ya know, someone’s assistant or something was a gay prostitute and happened to be connected to the administration.
But after reading about this story now, I can tell you there are basically two possibilities for what happened.
One: The Bush administration was so incompetent they let a man using a pseudonym who himself was a gay prostitute (possibly even after getting access to the white house… his site was up until May 2003 while February 2003 was the first time this “journalist” entered the west wing) have direct access to the President in the west wing of the White House.
Two: They knew he had been a gay prostitute and chose to give him direct access to the President in the west wing of the White House.
Bloggers uncovered this “intel” rather quickly. So if it’s possibility number 1, this is the administration two-thirds of America trust with the NSA database of phone calls?
If it’s possibility number 2, how do all of those family values voters feel about the willful decision to let a gay prostitute lob softball questions to the President?
Personally, I think it’s option number 1. The most likely scenario is that the Bush administration just wanted a journalist who would lob questions to the President, and they never bothered to do significant research into those journalist’s backgrounds.
For all of the civil rights this administration expects us to hand over for our “safety,” you’d think they could screen the people who have direct access to the President a tad better.
Added: Did I mention this guy has ties to the Valerie Plame intelligence scandal?
