A Different Perspective

Faith, Art, Politics, and the Emerging Church

about the podcast/blog

a different perspective from alan hartung on the emerging church, politics, faith, and life

I’ve had two auditions in two days… after two auditions in two months prior to that. Things have been really slow in the acting department for me, I hope the past couple of days are a sign of things picking up.

MacBookPro_125x125Please pray for my acting career right now. Sincerely. I’ve been really considering shifting focus more to writing and sales for my web design/hosting/domains/development business. But I have a great commercial agent, and I probably should have made a greater effort awhile ago to either ignite a fire under my theatrical agent or get a new one.

Financially, I have to make some pretty big decisions soon, especially if I don’t book something or pick up another big client or two in the web area. I’m really seeking wisdom and direction right now. Heck, I’ve even thought about pastoring again if I found the perfect local church that would truly support a ministry in a very nontraditional style. But if I ever do that again, I feel it’s more likely to be years down the road, if ever. And it would have to be a situation where I really feel it’s the right thing to do, as I feel we need a lot more pastors who aren’t earning their income from the church.

  1. This is starting to get scary. My wife mentioned to me the other day that you sound like the sort of person we’d like to meet, and I sort of laughed it off. But …
We seem to be coming from similar places theologically and politically

We both appear to be fairly high up on the “geek scale.” At least, I know I am, and I suspect that you are as well.

Both involved in acting (though mine is only amateur theater, not professionally)

And, while I’ve never been a pastor, my wife is.

    I’ll be praying for you.

  2. Thanks Dwayne. If you’re ever in Cali, we need to hook up for sure!

Texas is one of the places I’d like to visit some time. One of a handful of states I’ve never even driven through.

  3. Hey Alan, I echo what Dwayne says. Just a few years ago, I would have wished I had operatorated a site like sliceoflaodicea.

Looked all over the site for your email address, and couldn’t find it. The tab labeled “contact” simply leads me to the same page.

Speaking of hooking up, hey, I am just about 30 minutes down the 405 (2 AM Sunday morning, that is :) ). Drop me a line – profnachos@yahoo.com

  4. Oh Jeez. Did I just coin a new word? What is “operatorated”? I wish there was an option to prevew before submitting. Not complaining, but wishing :) .

  5. Well, if you want to come out to Texas at the end of March/beginning of April, you can catch me in a bit part in “Sordid Lives” at our community theater. (My wife has a bigger part).

    ;)

  6. If I get a windstorm of cash, I’ll consider it :D

Things are a little tight right now, but I really do want to visit Texas, and you and your wife seem like people I’d like to meet as well. It probably won’t happen soon, but I’d love to visit you some time.

    Alan
