Granger Community Church in Granger, Indiana has stirred up a little trouble for themselves with an innovative campaign to draw people into hear a sermon series.

I’m not a big fan of marketing anything to grow your church, as I feel the best growth comes through relationships and direct contact from individuals in the body of Christ ministering to others. That being said, the Church has been silent on sex, except to cry out against homosexuality, and a view of sex which leads many ashamed even after marriage is still predominant in much of the American church. I’m not sure if I’d like what Granger Community Church has to say or not (I am hoping they mp3 their sermons), but I think it is commendable that a local church would enter the conversation which secular culture currently dominates.

I feel like the billboards are done in good taste. A radio personality who runs a website dedicated to smearing all ideas contrary to hers marveled at the word sex in the domain name being printed on the billboard. What if a young child asks what that means? The horror.

If the children are too young for the parent to have the sex talk, you just say its an adult thing. The kid will let it go. There are plenty of things we do not explain to young kids because they cannot get it. The Church was not displaying profanity, the sign was just two pair of feet sticking out from underneath bed covers. If they are old enough to have the talk, what an excellent opportunity to have the talk and present your idea of sex to your child, in opposition to what the world throws out with an “anything goes just don’t get in too much trouble attitude” towards sex.

I’ll withhold judgement on the content of this church’s message until I get a chance to actually hear what they have to say about people’s lame sex lives.
