I downloaded the free Pilot episode of NBC’s new show Conviction.
I did not want to like this show, but…
NBC did a very smart thing releasing the free pilot on iTunes. If the show is not getting buzz already, it should be. The writing is excellent, the acting is mostly above average (often actors have not found their rhythm in the pilot ep), and the characters are compelling. Only a couple of cheese moments, and only one unrealistic scene I can think of. The conversation between an A.D.A. and a judge about ex’s and being dumped… it just didn’t read as a conversation they’d have, though the actors played it off as well as could be expected.
If you liked The Practice, you should definitely check out Conviction. The same intense drama, but this time it’s assistant district attorneys rather than an edgy criminal defense team.
Oh, and Julianne Nicholson was my neighbor when I lived in Venice (I hate saying that in the past tense… I’ll be back soon! I must…). She’s friends with some of my closest friends in Venice. Although I don’t really know her, I hear she’s a pretty cool person and hasn’t gotten caught up in herself with her success of the past few years (Little Black Book, Kinsey, and more).
And for all of you Angel fans out there, J. August Richards, who played Gunn, returns to primetime TV in this fresh, new show.
But the best reason to check this new show out? You can do it for free on iTunes:
Update: Evidently now that the pilot aired in its time slot, it is no longer free. There are, however, a couple of behind-the-scenes type items still available for free.
