My first experience with Amtrak has been a good one, thus far. I’m typing on MarsEdit as I’m offline and on the train (although I almost got connection at the Chatsworth stop…). The only thing I’m concerned about on this trip is that I think I might be in the wrong section. It was kind of strange. I got on, and I was talking on the phone. So I stepped off to the side. I saw an electrical outlet, so I asked someone sitting in this section if it was “business class.” She didn’t know, so I sat down.
I received another phone call. When the guy came around to take my ticket, he put a little yellow tag above my seat. But he didn’t tell me to sit anywhere else. No one else got a nice little yellow tag, so I’m wondering if I did something wrong? They haven’t said anything, and I figured moving after he tagged the seat wouldn’t be good. I really thought about buying the business class seat, but it was 2/3 more than the coach ticket. And the only advantage I can see is the outlet. If this is indeed business class.
It’s fun watching all the wireless networks flash in and out. The train moves too fast of course for me to connect, but often when I look there’s one or two networks. And people are being much smarter about encrypting their networks nowadays!
Any way, I’ve got a couple more hours on the train, so maybe inspiration will strike for some posting. I neglected to bring any books with me, and I’m already caught up on the podcasts I’ve downloaded. I already finished the draft for Core Issue #5, so I’ll probably post that right after this one when I get an internet connection. (That is unless I get a brief moment of internet activity on the train and can only send up one post).
So, it turns out I was okay. Evidently I wasn’t in the business class section, and the yellow tag just meant I was getting off in Anaheim. The other people in my car were all going to Union Station, which was evidently no tag…
