USATODAY.com – Looking for signs of intelligent life in Fort Wayne

I swelled with pride when I found out my hometown is considered “the dumbest town in all the land” according to Men’s Health magazine.

I guess this article came out about a year ago, but amazingly none of my hometown buds mentioned it to me. I found out about it in the home of another Fort Wayne native. I’m staying with my friend Shayna in Ventura for a couple days, and her roommate Matt is originally from Fort Wayne. I didn’t know him before this trip, and it turns out my dad taught his Physics class in high school!

I joked with my fellow stupid town native about the article. For years, I had noted how many smart and famous people came from Indiana. They all had one thing in common: they were smart enough to leave :D

On a serious note, I think my hometown’s getting a bit of a bad rap. I agree it’s far from the smartest city, but there’s an awful lot of smart people in the city.

But alas, I don’t take any offense at the article… as I will just believe I’m part of the “intellectual capital” which has left Fort Wayne, Indiana.
