Here’s a synopsis from the WB’s Supernatural site:
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) come to the aid of Sam’s old college buddy after he is accused of a murder he swears he didn’t commit. The brothers discover a shapeshifter is adopting the likenesses of others and murdering people. The brothers’ race to stop the shapeshifter takes a terrifying turn when he shifts into the likeness of Dean.
The episode was written by John Shiban and directed by Robert Duncan McNeill.

While this episode had its moments, it was by far the most hole-filled and inconsistent of the series. A disappointment. Do yourself a favor if you missed it, and don’t bother watching this one when it airs again this weekend. It will give you a bad idea of how good this show really is.
Spoilers here on out.
Okay, a shape-shifter that’s stupid enough to keep the form of someone arrested for a crime the shape-shifter committed would not last very long if he made a habit of hanging out where the crime happened… and looking for his next form and victim? Pretty unremarkable.
The second half of the episode did pick up a little, but over all, I felt like the shape-shifter vibe should’ve been one of the better episodes. Especially with David Nutter involved with the show (Roswell roots).
The ending… the police just think the person who died looking like Dean committed other crimes looking like other people? Why?!?
This new show needs tight writing and quality execution to keep going on a network known to dump quality shows at their first sign of stumbling. This episode fell far short of that standard.
Next week’s episode about a famous urban legend should get back on track. Let’s hope, or we’ll lose another show with tons of potential before it even gets really started.
