A Different Perspective

Faith, Art, Politics, and the Emerging Church

a different perspective from alan hartung on the emerging church, politics, faith, and life

Well, it looks like my favorite CMS, Mambo, has undergone a “fork.” When an open source projects has differing sets of developers wanting to take it in different directions, the project forks. So the development continues, but as a user, you pretty much have to choose a fork.

I guess the best way to explain it is that it is very similar to a church split.

Joomla! has caused mixed emotions for me, as I loved mambo. But all of the original development team went off to form the Joomla! fork of development.

I really don’t like the name, but I have a feeling these guys are going to stay true to the open source movement and continue the stellar development that Mambo has seen over the past couple of years.

I’m going to install Joomla! on a website or two, and I’ll let you all know what I think. Apparently they’ve already developed past the last Mambo version, so I’m interested to see what all the Joomla! team has done. I’d also like to see if my favorite Mambo components are working on this new (but nearly the same) CMS.
