After just two weeks of a new cell phone service (Verizon), I can say that I am amazed at this new invention where I can talk to people virtually anywhere I go…
You see, I had AT&T and Cingular for five years… I continually had awful service. I reached the final straw a few weeks ago, when I had a spat with customer service about policies which hadn’t changed… (they swore the policies hadn’t changed, but I had some unfortunate consequences due to the merger).
I actually have a friend who works for a company that handles Cingular’s customer service (that’s right, they don’t actually work for Cingular), and she informed me that the policies had indeed changed, but not their public policies, only behind the scenes.
I don’t know about other parts of the country, but here in Los Angeles nearly every one who has either AT&T or Cingular hates the service. They are either locked in by contracts, or just don’t have faith that any cell phone company would actually get them better service. I know one person who likes Cingular out here, out of probably 15 to 20 who have it.
Of about the same number of people who have Verizon… all of them love it. And I am now a happy customer, too. In fact, when I talk to people, I often get comments about the clarity of my connection. You see, they’re used to my calls breaking up and not coming through clearly on the Cingular network. Now, they can actually hear me.
Making the move away from Cingular and AT&T is one of the best things I’ve ever done. When I talked to a Verizon rep in their store, I asked a few quick questions, then he got me out the door in five minutes, keeping my old number. Seriously.
we just changed our land line over to a cell phone for me. it took 2 weeks to do it, cause i wanted to keep my home number as my cell number. and for nearly a week of that time, i could call out on one phone, and receive calls on the other. i felt like i had entered the movie “Brazil”.
but i like my service with Alltel so i guess it was worth it.
