From the emergent-us blog on the “emerging theologians” series being discussed.
“… the object would to sponsor new theological thought that is outside of the academy and created by currently unpublished authors.”
This states fairly well a concept I had a couple of years ago. As usual, I have a hard-time with the follow-through
I’ve started a book proposal for a Christology “for the church, in the church, and by the church.” What I mean by that, is that the book is theology not written for academics, in the academic world, by an academic. Although I do have a theology degree, I have long ago rejected most academic theologies at least in their method of communicating the ideas.
I think this is a great thing for emergent to look into. Although I’m concerned a little, too. It’s a great idea, but from what I’ve read in the past from emergent regarding theology, there’s a tendency to write above a lot of person’s heads. This “emerging theology” needs to be written for the church… all of it, not just those who are into theological terms and writing styles. Just my opinion, of course.
