I use a Mac by default, and I love it. One of the many things I love about Mac is that nearly everything looks better.
I’ve discovered that on Windows XP (and possibly other versions of Windows, though I’m not sure), there is a way to improve the appearance of text dramatically. In my opinion, it doesn’t make it look as good as on a Mac, but the difference to me is still astounding.
The default option on Windows XP does not set fonts to Anti-Alias. Anti-Alias will soften your fonts and give a much better viewing experience. Here’s how to do it on Windows XP:
On your desktop, right click and select properties. Click the appearance tab, then click the effects button. Check the box next to “use the following method to smooth screen fonts” and then select “Clear Type” from the pulldown menu.
Click okay, closing that window. Click “Apply”… and enjoy your immensely more pleasurable viewing experience.
