Well, I had a new one today. Walking down the street at the Venice boardwalk, this lady hands me a “million dollar bill.” At first, I just thought it was a joke thing, since there are a lot of strange people in Venice (and I don’t say that in a bad way… I live there by choice!). When I read it, it was saying stuff like “the only purpose of this is to let you know that Jesus…”
At first, I just laughed. Spencer and I were doing a promo video for Soularize and walking around Venice. Then I got a little upset. This lady was standing within ten yards of probably five homeless people who chill at the boardwalk every day. Did she (and at least one friend who tried to give us one later) really think that the time she was spending was benefiting the Kingdom of God in any way? How much better could her time be spent helping the many, many who need help. Wouldn’t that more likely witness to Christ than a poorly written, poorly conceived paper tract?
The thing is, I believe these people have good intentions and believe what they are doing is right. That makes it all the more frustrating. If all of these people who pass out tracts would serve people with that same time, that would make a crazy impact in the world.
