Whether this is legal or not, it is certainly not ethical. How will the president respond? People make mistakes, I understand that. Will this be recognized as a flagrant abuse of power, or will it be swept under the table and defended (as early indications show will be White House policy)?

The fact that Armstrong Williams, the man whose company took the money, believes this was unethical shows the dubious nature of the deal. Someone from Bush’s camp (a prominent conservative commentator) would not risk severing political ties if this were not a serious issue.

Please don’t comment about how what some other president did was worse. I’m sick of the tactic. Every time one of Bush’s actions are called into question I hear about how the last guy was worse. Well, I didn’t really like him either. I’m concerned with what this president is doing now, not what others have done in the past.
