A Different Perspective

Faith, Art, Politics, and the Emerging Church

a different perspective from alan hartung on the emerging church, politics, faith, and life

This is a little old, too, but I just got emailed a NY Times article on how Jim Wallis, Al Sharpton, and Jerry Falwell clashed on Meet the Press on November 28. It’s interesting to see their comments and how they respond to each other.

Major props to Jim Wallis for articulating clearly how Jesus is not a Republican or a Democrat. Is it possible for Falwell to diminish in my eyes any more? And as for Al Sharpton, the more I listen to the man, the more I like him. He says some things I clearly disagree with, but now that I don’t automatically dislike him because of his political affiliation, I realize he says some really good stuff.

I’m planning an upcoming podcast on Christianity and politics. Stay tuned…

Oh, and here’s one of the things I liked most about what Jim Wallis said:

Mr. Wallis suggested that the solution would not be found in the Supreme Court, but rather in social programs that help reduce unwanted pregnancies.

“Pro-life and pro-choice people could unite together around working on teenage pregnancy, adoption reform, supporting low-income women,” he said. “When you support them economically, the abortion rate falls.”
