So why are neither of the major candidates spending cash on online advertising? I have an idea.
This is not an oversight on the behalf of Bush/Kerry (might as well be the same ticket). I think both of their respective campaigns looked closely at online marketing and decided there was a major problem. Online advertising would have to lead people to content. That was something they couldn’t have.
If this election were about positions or content, online marketing would be at the forefront. And with more and more Americans spending time online, it would be a viable way to reach people with their message. Neither Bush nor Kerry would benefit from voters tapping into their content.
There are other online activities going on, but they aren’t directly sponsored by the campaigns. Billions are spent in other advertising forms, but very little has been apportioned to the fastest growing marketing segment today. Why would they spend money? This election isn’t over positions, they are virtually the same on most of the essential issues.
